Mastiff Puppy
If you feel like you have fallen deeply in love with Mastiffs and therefore will not be able to battle the temptation to buy a Mastiff Puppy, please, make sure that the necessity to make a huge investment in your dog will not make your love fade! Mastiffs are large and powerful dogs, and they have a reputation of one of the heaviest dogs. Old Mastiffs were popular among ancient Greeks and Romans for their reckless and protective temperament. They were also used in gladiator battles, dog fighting contests, as well as bill- and bear baiting shows.
Today’s Mastiffs are not as vicious as their early predecessors. They are very intelligent, affectionate and discreet. Even in protecting their loved ones, they do not usually attack without warning. They are renowned for their ability to hold enemies at bay for a long time. Due to their natural protectiveness, they do not have to be taught to defend their loved ones and property. Mastiffs are usually aloof with strangers and they can be dog-aggressive so Mastiff Puppies require good socialization and training.
Mastiffs have been instrumental in creating some other popular breeds. They are related, directly or indirectly, with English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, American Bulldogs, Pit Bull Terriers, Bull Mastiffs, and so forth. The Bull Mastiff looks very similar to the English Mastiff, and he has inherited his intelligence and restraint. Bull Mastiffs were bred with a special goal, and they were supposed to detain poachers and thieves without much damage to the culprit’s health. Mastiff Puppies are so similar to Bull mastiff Puppies that it is not easy to tell the apart.
Both Mastiffs and Bull Mastiffs have distinctive black markings around the nose and eyes, which make up a characteristic mask. They have a smooth coat, which comes in different shades of fawn, red, apricot, brindle, etc. These dogs weigh 150-170 lbs, and measure more than 30 inches high at the shoulder. The Bull Mastiff originated as a cross between the English Mastiff and the Olde English Bulldogge. This new dog was supposed to be less vicious than the Olde English Bulldogge, but more agile and speedier than the Mastiff. For this reason, the Bull Mastiff is fitter for service work than the English Mastiff. If you have decided to purchase a Bull Mastiff or a Mastiff Puppy, you should know that neither is intended for any blood sport, and both are highly valued for their companion’s qualities.
